The production company Batabat has been chosen to present its documentary Diumenge a les 5 (Sunday at 5) at the Medimed festival. Medimed will be held from the 12th to the 14th of October in Sitges. The festival, now in its eighth year, has grown to become one of the most important events of its kind in the Mediterranean region
At the festival, Batabat and ten other production companies will present their documentaries before a panel of more than 25 heads of different television channels and networks, among which are the Franco-German network ARTE, ORF from Austria, France’s FRANCE5 and FRANCE3, TVE from Spain, the Dutch AVRO, Arabian ARABYA TV, YLE from Finland, Greece’s ERT, VISION TV from Canada, Swedish SVT, Great Britain’s PLANET TV, ARD from Germany and the Belgian RTBF and LICHTPUNT. For now the documentary, which is currently in the editing phase, is being co-produced by TVC and Euskal Telebista with participation from the Northern Irish production company Tobar Productions. Diumenge a les 5 is a documentary about the role of political prisoners in the peace process in Northern Ireland. Two of these prisoners, one from the IRA and the other a UDA loyalist, present an in-depth and unprecedented portrait of the prison perspective of conflict resolution. Through their eyes we are taken back to the past and brought up to the present, to the awakening of their political consciousness, to their lives in hiding, through the struggle of prison, torture, hunger strikes… but also to places won through reflection and the drive for peace from behind bars, the freedom brought by the Peace Agreement, relationships with victims and perspectives on the future.
