Cultura 03 joins the cooperative business group Clade
The entrance of Cultura 03 strengthens the weight of the culture and communication sectors in Grupo Clade, now made up of 11 companies.

With a turnover of 20.2 million euros in 2006 and 150 employees, Cultura 03 has recently launched the weekly Time Out Barcelona.

This morning the cooperative business group Clade announced that Grup Cultura 03 has joined their ranks as the newest member of the group. With this new incorporation, which strengthens the weight of the culture and communication sectors in Grupo Clade, there are now eleven cooperatives and employee-owned companies that make up this business group as it begins its fourth year.

Cultura 03, founded in 2003, is a cooperative group made up of six companies in the fields of communication and culture that seeks to provide the Catalan culture of an innovative cultural and communications industry with the goal for leadership and internationalist aspirations. The Group is made up of the graphic arts cooperative Gramagraf, one of the first companies of the Group with more than twenty years of experience; Sàpiens Publicacions, the magazine publishing house that puts out Sàpiens, Descobrir Catalunya, Descobrir Cuina, Lonely Planet Magazine and since last Thursday the weekly Time Out Barcelona; the publishing house Ara, which encompasses the brands Ara Llibres, Amsterdam, Alisis, Now Books and Ara Idees; the audiovisual producer Batabat; the free-press publisher Contrapunt; and the live cultural event organiser Zero 4. As for their economic success, Cultura 03 had a turnover of 20.2 million euros in 2006 and boasts 150 workers among the businesses of the group.

“Cultura 03’s incorporation into Clade is a natural event in the trajectory of building the strong and pioneering cooperative project on which Cultura 03 has been working,” explains Oriol Soler, director of Cultura 03. “The added synergies that Clade offers are another opportunity to boldly move towards the growth we’re seeking for the group.”

The general director of Clade, Xavier López, states that “Cultura 03 is one of the most outstanding cooperative business projects born in Catalonia in the last ten years, because it makes a leading project within the Catalan cultural industry compatible with a clear cooperative conviction.” And he adds, “The incorporation of Cultura 03 to the group allows us to be stronger in a sector – that of culture, communication, and leisure – that is in the middle of a phase of international expansion. Cultura 03 provides us with a very prestigious seal of quality in this area.”

With this incorporation, Clade strengthens its weight in the cultural and leisure sector in Catalonia thanks to the participation of Abacus and now that of Cultura 03. And, indeed, these two organisations are working on a common project: the construction of a new 12,000m2 joint headquarters in the Sant Cosme neighbourhood of El Prat de Llobregat involving an investment of 10 million euros. The agreement with Cultura 03 is added to recent incorporations by Fundació Blanquerna and Escaler Cooperativa, which took place in 2007.
